About Us

Hey everyone! Welcome to Dukki’s Shop, where we’re just like family from the very first “hello.” I’m Meagan Hammett, the founder whose heart has always belonged to animals. I got my first dog when I was just 5 years old. It was an English Springer Spaniel. Originally, I wanted a kitten. Unfortunately, my parents refused to get one when my eyes started pouring enough water to flood the crate as soon as I stepped into the room. Let's pretend boogers aren't an awful side effect of allergies for this story. 

Despite having a cat allergy, I started working with cats and dogs daily in 2011. For fifteen wonderful years, I ran my own professional pet-sitting company right here in the South. That journey taught me so much—client relationships, business taxes, marketing, social media, and everything under the sun about dog breeds, cat breeds, and even those exotic critters that steal your heart. I had the blessing of walking into so many loving homes, getting to know precious families, and spending my days surrounded by wagging tails and sweet purrs. Some days I’d walk 26 miles in that sticky Southern summer heat, and during busy seasons or holidays my days stretched up to 18 hours long. Within the first five years, it was 365 days a year, but every single mile and every long day was worth it because it filled my heart with pure joy. However, this lifestyle is no longer sustainable as a mother. 

After having my daughter in 2019, I returned to school and earned my Bachelor of Science in Animal Health & Behavior wile working as a veterinary assistant for a year of the four. All that hands-on experience, those miles on the pavement, and all those cuddles gave me a well full of knowledge I just can’t wait to share with anyone who wishes to learn.

These days, my own little farm is full of love and chaos! I’m a proud mama to a sweet 6-year-old girl and a lively pack of four dogs—all girls, all black & white. We’ve got two bouncy Beagle sisters, Luna and Tot, who are just over a year old and into everything. Noelle, our 10-year-old Border Collie, keeps everyone in line with her smarty-pants ways, and Mittens, our 14-year-old black Labrador Retriever, is the gentle queen of the crew. We also have one spoiled cat, three silly ducks, and 18 wonderful chickens rounding out our happy little zoo.

That’s why I created Dukki’s Shop—to pour all that love, experience, and know-how into one warm, welcoming place for fellow pet lovers. Here you’ll find friendly breed care tips, honest breed comparisons, gorgeous history-of-the-breed infographics, and carefully chosen breed-specific products that celebrate your favorite furry (and feathered!) family members. Pretty soon we’ll also be adding conservation and endangered animal infographics and products for folks who love supporting our wild friends too.
